Surreal
lovers on the path to planet pain, a sky scraping cross spaceship, black holes
leading to unknown universes and masochists peeling off
each other’s skin. What in tar nation is Marius Black up to now?!
Hi! I’m Marius and you’ve just read The Man from
The Planet of the Masochists. I would like to introduce myself a bit, I’m a surrealist artist and I love anatomical figures and use them as
subjects in my artworks.
I also love making comic books, the ones that
not everyone likes to read. Some
previous works of mine include SATANHIGH, The Black Rose and Someone
Else’s Life.
I made this comic when I was in 4th year college
in UST (University of Santo Tomas) studying Fine Arts painting and at that time, I was
dealing with my painting thesis and a terrible
break-up. That’s never a good mix, so instead of being
consumed by the masochistic tendencies I was
going through, I made something creative out of it. This is actually the third rendition of this
book. Sometimes you have to redo things
over and over just
to get it right. It’s like going back to the
past and fixing a few glitches here and
there to make a fresh
new start today story and art wise, the first time I made it was for the Graphic
Fiction Awards contest
judged by Neil Gaiman. Although I wasn’t able to
finish it on time to submit it in the
contest, I was still
able to release it soon after. Then years passed
I made a second rendition and released
it under
Komikult at Komikon. And now on the third rendition, I edited some
of the panels and dialogues and it
also comes with a big whammy in the end. Well
the first two renditions, I considered this book to be a
one shot story, but as I edited the book for the third time I found
that there are a lot more stories that
can follow after the two masochists leave
earth. So what’s the big whammy you ask?
Well did you
happen to see the “To Be Continued” on the last
page? Yup! That’s it! I have decided to make this a part
of the Planet of the Masochists trilogy!
The second book will be titled The Vastness of
the Empty Space so watch out for that soon!
